MPC Extended Numbering Scheme

The traditional 80-column format, used for the submission of
observational data to the MPC, reserves the first five columns to encode the
minor planet number. The largest numbered object that can be represented
using the current encoding is 'z9999' = 619999; this threshold will soon be
exceeded. Because a portion of the community wishes to continue to use the
80-column format, the MPC will extend the five-column format as follows:

- Numbers greater than 619999 will be indicated using a tilde, "~", as the
first character.
- The subsequent four characters will all be base-62 (0-9, then A-Z if
between 10 and 35 inclusive, then a-z if between 36 and 61 inclusive) and
used to represent the number MINUS 620,000.

For example:
(620000) will be represented as ~0000
(620061) will be represented as ~000z
(3140113) will be represented as ~AZaz
(15396335) will be represented as ~zzzz

dati osservativi al MPC, si riserva le prime cinque colonne per codificare il file
numero di pianeta minore. L'oggetto numerato più grande che può essere rappresentato
l'utilizzo della codifica corrente è 'z9999' = 619999; questa soglia sarà presto
superato. Perché una parte della comunità desidera continuare a utilizzare il
Formato a 80 colonne, il MPC estenderà il formato a cinque colonne come segue:

- I numeri maggiori di 619999 saranno indicati usando una tilde, "~", come
primo personaggio.
- I successivi quattro caratteri saranno tutti base-62 (0-9, quindi A-Z se
tra 10 e 35 inclusi, quindi a-z se tra 36 e 61 inclusi) e
usato per rappresentare il numero MINUS 620.000.
