Mio fratello mi ha portato questo librone dal Canada un paio di anni fa. E mi è subito parso stupendo. Pur non essendo un anglofono (ero in 3^ liceo quando me l'ha portato...) ho subito capito quasi tutto, perchè è scritto in modo molto semplice, ma al tempo stesso approfondito.
Copre tutti i campi: da nozioni di astronomia, alla strumentazione, all'osservazione ad occhio nudo, ai vari cataloghi degli oggetti... TUtto quello che uno potrebbe voler sapere qui c'è
Per fare un esempio: ha ripotato, per 81 nebulose, come si comportano coi filtri UHC, OIII, DEEP-SKY e H-BETA.
Ad esempio, per M8:
DEEP SKY (3) Some increase in contrast, with a bit more nebulosity visible then without a filter
UHC (5) Large boost in contrast and visibility of outer nebulosity. Nebula appears much larger (nearly a degree wide) with some detail enhancement, especially in the outer regions
OIII (5) Slightly fainter than in the UHC, but shows slightly more contrast and dark detail than UHC does. Some of the outermost nebulosity fades, but detail in inner regions is remarkable. Faint red color can be noted in the brighter areas. May be the better filter under light polluted conditions
H-BETA(2) Dims the nebula considerabily, with only the circular ball of haze around the Hourglass nebula and the external arc being easy to see
