Instructions for adjusting the interpupillary tension of all Denkmeier Optical Binoviewers
Note: You will need a set of small screwdrivers available at any hardware or discount store
Step one: Remove the logo cap from the binoviewer. Locate the very small side set screw that
retains the logo cap (A). This setscrew is located on the side of the cylindrical binoviewer part
that the logo cap attaches to. This setscrew is a very small slot-head variety. Engage and turn
counter-clockwise just enough so that the logo cap can be removed. Do not back out this set
screw more than is necessary to remove the logo cap or it will be difficult to place back into the
threaded hole. It is very small. Now remove the logo cap. Note: We have the logo cap positioned
so that it our name appears upright when the binoviewer has a typical interpupillary setting. This
is for aesthetic purposes. You may wish to restore the logo to this position so take note of this.
Step two: You will note that there is an outer brass ring with two holes located on the top (C).
This outer ring must be tightened by rotating it clockwise. Before doing this, locate the setscrew
(B) located on the side of this assembly. This setscrew must be backed out a bit before rotating
the ring. Turn the setscrew (C) counter-clockwise to loosen it a small amount.
Step Three: Grasp the ring assembly with your fingers and rotate it firmly in a clockwise motion.
You may have to engage one of the holes in the top surface of the ring with a philips head screw
driver to “push” the ring clock-wise if you cannot adequately grip the ring with your fingers .Test
the feel of the interpupillary motion. Note: The interpupillary motion will become firmer when
setscrew (C) is tightened back down so rotate the ring assembly until it feels close to the desired
interpupillary tension realizing that it will tighten a bit more when the side set screw is retightened.
Step Four: Tighten the setscrew (C) firmly. If the setscrew is in a position that makes it
inaccessible, increase or decrease the interpupillary distance until it is more accessible or the
binoviewer will have to have the eyepiece holder removed. If this is the case, the binoviewer will
need to be re-collimated. It is advisable to return the binoviewer to us if this is the case so that we
may complete the interpupillary tension adjustment after removing the eyepiece holder, and then
we will collimate the binoviewer. A modest fee will be charged.
Step Five: Replace the Logo Cap so that the Logo text is upright and tighten setscrew (A).
